Subject: Security Advisory - Recent automobile break-ins on and near campus
Over the past several weeks, the City of Redlands and surrounding communities have experienced several incidents of vehicle break-ins within the surrounding neighborhoods and local shopping area parking lots. Unfortunately, the holiday season typically brings increased crimes, such as these, and in many instances, the vehicle owners had locked their cars.
On January 2, 2024, it was discovered there were several vehicle break-ins on campus. Four vehicles were parked on East Drive, and three vehicles were parked in the parking lot located between the library and Cortner Hall. Entry into the vehicles was made by shattering or damaging driver or passenger windows. The vehicles belong to students who left them behind during Winter break. We do not know if any property was taken.
It's important to note that Public Safety maintained heightened visibility patrols during the holiday break when the campus was closed. We have increased our patrols of parking lots and dispatchers will continue to closely monitor surveillance cameras for any signs of suspicious activity.
As a reminder, the University community is urged to practice enhanced security measures with their parked vehicles:
Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our campus community members. If you have any questions or information, please contact Public Safety at 909-748-8888 from any campus phone.
