Develop analytical skills through coursework across concentrations: world politics, law and politics, campaigns and elections, and government and policy.
What if you had the power to make the world a better place by writing a bill to do this or that? In Professor Renée Van Vechten’s U.S. Congress class, students inhabit the roles of real U.S. representatives in a simulation of a current Congressional session.
Part research, part strategizing, and part performance, the class delivers an extraordinary learning experience.
"It’s a rough approximation of reality, one designed to help students understand just how complex lawmaking really is,” says Van Vechten. “You’re not really passing policy, but you get a sense of how great it would be if you were able to and that helps you imagine the possibility of doing it ‘for real.’”
